Improving the Quality of Life, One Stride at a Time!
Celebrating 40th Anniversary. Since 1975, Sebastian has been offering equine assisted therapy programs for children and adults living with a variety of physical, mental health and intellectual disabilities. The focus of our program is a safe, fun and healthy approach to growth and rehabilitation through equine activities and riding.
Offering much more than the traditional riding program, we strive to achieve physical development, socialization and learning through fun activities. We build balance and symmetry, increase reach and range of motion, develop speech and language, thought processes, planning, and sequencing. At Sebastian, we instill a great sense of success, confidence, and accomplishment in our riders. Not only do SRA students learn to ride, they groom, tack and care for their horse.
We use specially trained horses to meet our riders’ needs. We use special equipment and provide ASTM-SEI approved helmets with our riders’ safety paramount in all of our activities. SRA offers private and group lessons so we can best meet the individual needs of our riders.
SRA is open seven days a week, with the majority of lessons in the evenings and weekends when we have the most volunteer power. We have more than 170 students, 17 horses, a team of part-time instructors, physical therapists, managed by a program staff and a Board of Directors.

For the 142nd Kentucky Derby! Our last DDD was a big success once again! We were able to raise much needed funds for Sebastian Riding Associates and at the same time raise awareness for what we do and how we positively impact our community. As usual, the Club at Shannondell was the perfect place to hold our party – the staff is always amazing and the food is outstanding. On top of that, it was so much fun to watch American Pharaoh win the Kentucky Derby race – it was easy to see how he would go all the way to win the Triple Crown! 2015 event included some new & improved features, such as a photo booth(tons of fun!), as well as band that was for us, but not new in the banquet, wedding, night club scene – Where’s Pete Band. They were phenomenal and had us all dancing until we couldn’t dance anymore. We also enjoyed a sit-down dinner as opposed to buffet-style dinner served in the past. One of the highlights of the evening was our 40th Anniversary Video by Seth Umberhauer. The video was shown to the guests at the start of the dinner service, and to say it was moving is an understatement. It highlighted our organization from its beginning in 1975 to the present. Many of our guests were not aware of our history, and all were moved by what we do and how we do it. You can view the video (above) on this webpage. We are currently planning the 6th Annual Derby, Dine & Dance! Please mark your calendars for May 7, 2016. If you would like to help, we can always use volunteers – please call the office and let us know. or contact firstname.lastname@example.org. We are always in need of donations for our silent auction and sponsors for the event.Do you have tickets for sporting events, theater, etc., or perhaps you have a vacation home? Please consider donating tickets to a game or a week vacation to our silent auction. As always, we thank you for your support ~ Kathy Grubelic

UCARE Community Partner In-Focus: Sebastian Ridingby Tabi Rudzinski Sebastian Riding Associates is a therapeutic horseback riding facility which currently serves over 100 riders in a variety of programs including equine assisted therapy, hippo-therapy, summer camp programs, intro to horses, and more. These programs are geared towards children and adults with a wide range of physical, mental, and emotional disabilities. SRA is run by 3 full time staff members, in addition to part time instructors. Volunteers also play a big role in helping things at the barn run smoothly. In 2015, 213 volunteers spent over 10,200 hours feeding, cleaning, assisting lessons, and more at SRA. Although the work can get messy, the mission and feedback of students at SRA keeps volunteers coming back. When asked about running SRA, general manager Chris Hanebury says, “I’ve never worked so hard in my life, but I feel very passionate about what we do and how we help people. It’s awesome because it seems the world is more open to alternate therapies than it’s ever been.”
The selection of four charitable organizations as its 2015 beneficiaries. The mission of Dressage at Devon, a world-‐class dressage competition and the world’s largest open breed show, includes the furtherance of dressage education. Mike Riley, Chair of Dressage at Devon’s Board of Directors, said that the Directors unanimously chose the following beneficiaries: SRA was one of four organizations that received a $5,000 grant from the Dressage at Devon this October. We are so thankful for the support of our program by this prestigious event.
Smartpak Colicare, a leading equine supplement supplier, featured our very own Thunder as the October Horse of the Month.
