Celebrating 40th Anniversary. Since 1975, Sebastian has been offering equine assisted therapy programs for children and adults living with a variety of physical, mental health and intellectual disabilities. The focus of our program is a safe, fun and healthy approach to growth and rehabilitation through equine activities and riding.
Offering much more than the traditional riding program, we strive to achieve physical development, socialization and learning through fun activities. We build balance and symmetry, increase reach and range of motion, develop speech and language, thought processes, planning, and sequencing. At Sebastian, we instill a great sense of success, confidence, and accomplishment in our riders. Not only do SRA students learn to ride, they groom, tack and care for their horse.
We use specially trained horses to meet our riders’ needs. We use special equipment and provide ASTM-SEI approved helmets with our riders’ safety paramount in all of our activities. SRA offers private and group lessons so we can best meet the individual needs of our riders.
SRA is open seven days a week, with the majority of lessons in the evenings and weekends when we have the most volunteer power. We have more than 170 students, 17 horses, a team of part-time instructors, physical therapists, managed by a program staff and a Board of Directors.
Quilt Raffle Update: The winning raffle ticket for the horse themed quilt donated by Pat Grotzinger was won by student, Nika Kownurko! Congratulations Nika, we are green with envy!!!
Intro to Horses program: In October, SRA hosted the Wissahickon School District Autistic Support classes for our Intro to Horses program. The students learned about body language, how to groom a horse, leading a horses and a scavenger hunt to top off the fun. Thank you for exploring the wonderful world of therapeutic riding with your students!
Dogtober Fest: Our Vinnie recently attend the Dogtober Fest at SEI Investments as part of a promotion of their animal charities to the nearly 2000 employees at their Oaks location. Of course, he was a huge hit and in a lot of ‘selfies’, everyone wanted to take him home! SEI Cares.
The 10th Annual Legs for Lindsey was held on August 12th! We were so grateful to SEI Investments for allowing us to move the race to begin and end at their facility with the race run on the very flat and scenic Perkiomen Trail. With over 300 runners and walkers in the 5K and fun run, we take that as a green flag for the race to stay at this location! Please be sure to visit our website for a list of all the sponsors of this race and support them as you are able!
