UCARE Community Partner In-Focus: Sebastian Riding by Tabi Rudzinski Sebastian Riding Associates is a therapeutic horseback riding facility which currently serves over 100 riders in a variety of programs including equine assisted therapy, hippo-therapy, summer camp programs, intro to horses, and more. These programs are geared towards children and adults with a wide range of physical, mental, and emotional disabilities. SRA is run by 3 full time staff members, in addition to part time instructors. Volunteers also play a big role in helping things at the barn run smoothly. In 2015, 213 volunteers spent over 10,200 hours feeding, cleaning, assisting lessons, and more at SRA. Although the work can get messy, the mission and feedback of students at SRA keeps volunteers coming back. When asked about running SRA, general manager Chris Hanebury says, “I’ve never worked so hard in my life, but I feel very passionate about what we do and how we help people. It’s awesome because it seems the world is more open to alternate therapies than it’s ever been.”
